Lisa achieves her goals

“We spelt L-O-V-E in different movements”, Lisa, a person we support talks to us about her dance routine in the Agility dance group, summer showcase and her amazing weight-loss.

Speaking to Lisa it’s evident that she is confident and very proud of her recent achievements. Lisa, a 48-year-old, person we support in Swansea proudly danced in the summer showcase with her dance group, Agility. Each weekend, Lisa, who has cerebral palsy, epilepsy and uses a wheelchair travels to the dance group in Port Talbot with the help of her support workers to practice the routine. The inclusive dance group work with adults and young people with learning difficulties to give them the chance to dance and perform in a professional setting. Lisa positively described the group as “great” for its accessibility for wheelchair users. Agility is an excellent part of Lisa’s weekly schedule and hearing first-hand from Lisa how her support workers allow her to choose how she wants to be supported by working with her on her person-centred plan (PCP) goals is fantastic. Lisa has been supported to live the way she wants to and do the things she wants to do, talking about her support workers, Lisa said “I love it because they encourage me to get involved”.

Lisa’s hard work paid off and the summer showcase who was presented at Welfare Ystradgynlais was a huge success. Lisa told me all about her moves which included spelling L-O-V-E using different movements by waving her hands and lifting her fingers, to forming a circle while pretending to play the trumpet. Lisa’s achievements did not just end there, she confidently told me about how she aced another one of her PCP goals, of looking after her health and getting in shape. Lisa who goes swimming once a week and has diligently attended Slimming World for a year, has lost 3st 10lbs! “I was over the moon!”, she says as she tells me of her success, Lisa doubled down on this by winning the ‘Woman of the Year Award’ at Slimming World for her weight loss.

When asked how she did it, Lisa explained that it was down to a healthy diet and keeping active, which was confirmed by her support worker, Sam, “Lisa is brilliant and very active”.

Thank you, Lisa, for taking time to talk to us about your incredible weight loss and fantastic summer showcase! We look forward to hearing all about the winter showcase happening at the end of this month.
