Families and friends
The families and friends of the people we support have always had an important role to play at Walsingham. Find out more about us and how we value your input.
Walsingham was founded in 1986 by a parent of a person with a learning disability. Our ethos was determined by a group of like-minded parents. To ensure that we maintain our ethos, at least one third of our Trustees have a son or daughter with a learning disability. Furthermore, our well-trained staff all share the Walsingham ethos and value people with a learning disability as equals.
We have consistently provided high quality care and support for people with learning disabilities and operate from a sound financial base, as shown in our annual reviews. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the people we support are individuals.
We have always recognised that we can never have the same knowledge, expertise and love for the individuals we support as their families and friends. We therefore greatly value your vital input into the lives of the people who use our services.
We are currently working with other organisations as part of the Our Voice project to ensure that people with a learning disability have a greater say in the way that we operate. We expect our services to change and develop based on what the people we support tell us. Families and friends can have an important part to play in helping people with learning disabilities develop a stronger voice and we would welcome your involvement.
We are constantly seeking to improve our communications and service to you. A newsletter for the people we support and their families and friends is produced three times a year. Some services also produce their own newsletter and hold meetings. If you have any suggestions about how you could be further involved in the lives of the people we support and/or in Walsingham, or if you have any questions, please email enquiries@walsingham.com.
