Our trustees
We have trustees at Walsingham.
They have lots of different skills. They know about housing, training, money, learning disabilities and government.
Richard was a minister in the Church of England for 11 years.
He also worked in the European Commission in Brussels for 18 years and for the Treasury for 10 years.
Richard retired in 2007 and became chair of trustees in 2010.
Sue knows a lot about education and learning disabilities. She was a teacher for people with learning disabilities.
She has also organised and written training for staff working with people with learning disabilities.
Sue has done a lot of work on meeting the spiritual needs of people with learning disabilities.She retired in 2005.
Marilyn is a qualified health professional.
She knows a lot about physiotherapy and moving and handling.
Conall knows a lot about computers.He is Head of IT and Data Protection for the disability charity Scope.
He has experience of living with a learning disability both personally and in his family.
Peter knows a lot about money. He is an accountant.He was Finance Director for organisations in the private sector. He helped Coventry City Council.
Peter has now retired.He still does some work for a charity.
Mabel knows a lot about services. She spent 20 years living in a long-stay hospital.
Since then Mabel has used supported living services.She was supported by Walsingham for a few years.
Mabel has an honorary degree from the Open University.She was given this because of her work training people and as an advocate.
Janine knows a lot about recruitment.She has worked in this area for over 20 years.
Janine is currently the Managing Director of Personnel and Care Bank.
Judy knows a lot about money and law.She is a civil servant.
Deven knows a lot about social care. He has worked for councils, health authorities, housing associations and charities.
Deven is the boss of Harrow Mencap.
Geoffrey knows a lot about spiritual needs. Geoffrey is the vicar of Wigton in Cumbria.
Colin knows a lot about money. He worked as a banker for nearly 30 years.
He now works for the Pensions Regulator in Brighton.He helps make sure that people's pension schemes are run properly.
Maddy knows a lot about training and human resources.She is the Regional Development Manager at Skills for Care in London.
David has worked with people with learning disabilities for over 30 years.
He is now the boss of a charity called ROC that supports people with learning disabilities in Devon and Cornwall.
David was also a trustee for ARC for 8 years and on a school board for 7 years.

health authorities
The government has organisations that look after everything to do with people's health in an area. These organisations are sometimes called health authorities. They do things like run hospitals and make sure there are enough doctors for people to visit.

housing associations
Organisations that help people who don't have a lot of money get somewhere to live are sometimes called housing associations.

human resources
The human resources team in an organisation look after staff. They do things like making sure everyone gets paid the right money.

A pension is money you get when you stop working.

A policy is the way everyone at Walsingham has agreed to work.

private sector
Organisations that try to make as much money as possible work in the private sector.

qualified
A person who has the right experience and training to do a job is sometimes called qualified to do that job.

recruitment
Getting new staff is sometimes called recruitment.

retired
When a person chooses not to work anymore, they are sometimes called retired.

services
Our services are what we offer to people with learning disabilities. Lots of our services are to do with day-to-day support. We also have services to do with other things like supporting people to learn new skills or have a job.

skills
The things you can do well are sometimes called your skills.

social care
Some organisations do work called social care. They give support to people who need it. Like people with learning disabilities, people with physical disabilities, older people, people who are ill, people who use drugs and children who have problems.

spiritual needs
Things that are important to a person are sometimes called their spiritual needs. They might include the person's religion, feelings, relationships with their family and friends or other things.

staff
People who work for Walsingham are called staff.

supported living
People who use our supported living services pay for their own rent, food and bills. The staff support them all the time. They might choose to live with other people or on their own.

training
When people learn new things that will help them do their job better, it is sometimes called training.
